StarWars - Episode 6

In this February, when it is time to leave the cold winter behind and feel yet dim strength of the spring, the annual exhibition of UNC Gallery, Starwars episode 6 which has been introducing remarkable artists, opens. The coldness that hit last winter froze solid, not only our hearts but also the social atmosphere. Like the spring breeze that surely visits us in every spring, the rising artists that UNC Gallery introduces will thaw the emotion of the visitors.

This year, Starwars episode 6 introduces Soyeon Kim, Jieun Yoon, Michael Anthony Simon, the artists who explore various mediums through paintings, installations, and sculptures. Through this exhibition, UNC gallery aims to look into the ‘soft heart under a stern exterior’ of people with different point of views and ruminated portraits of us who live with the intentional indifference by the wound of anxiety today.

유난히도 추웠던 올 겨울을 뒤로하고 따뜻한 봄의 기운을 희미하게 느끼는 2월, UNC 갤러리가 매 년 초 주목할만한 작가들을 소개해온<스타워즈 에피소드6>展 이 열린다. 올 겨울을 강타했던 매서운 추위는 비단 우리의 몸뿐만 아니라 마음 그리고 사회 분위기까지 꽁꽁 얼어붙게 만들었다. 올해도 어김없이 불어오는 봄바람처럼, UNC 갤러리가 소개하는 작가들이 추운 겨우 내 얼어붙었던 현대인의 감성에 조금이나마 불을 지필 수 있도록 이번 전시를 기획하였다. 

올해로 6번째를 맞이하는 <스타워즈 에피소드6>展에서는 회화, 설치, 조각 등 다양한 매체를 통해 작업하고 있는 김소연(회화), 윤지은(조각, 마이클 앤소니 사이먼(설치)을 소개한다. 이번 전시는 현대인의 ‘외강내유(外剛內柔)’의 모습을 각각의 매체를 사용하여 각기 다른 시각으로 살펴보고자 하였으며, 상처로 인한 불안감을 가진 체 사회에 무관심하게 현 시대를 살아가는 나 또는 우리의 모습을 되새김해보고자 한다.
